yeah... that was pretty standard in all the apartments we’ve rented. Parking is just so tight in most of the complexes out here I can see where they don’t want folks using spots to do an oil change...

Seems like something you’d find in a lease agreement instead.

Man, at my apartment complex the number of fixes, mods, fluid changes I did. Actually met more of my neighbors that way as they’d pass by and wanted to know who had “the car” . I think they meant that in a positive way.

Surprised you even got out of the car.

It’s a damn good deal, and with the jag going away hopefully soon I should have “reliable vehicles” that don’t need worked on every goddamn evening.

I mean, if you got a buddy with some space you can do work at his place in exchange for pizza and beer. I volunteered my driveway to several friends for brake work, oil changes, etc.

You know, how many actual repairs do you (okay, a normal person without the world’s worst luck) do? Couldn’t you argue that it’s just maintenance?

I doubt they make a distinction. I think this means “don’t work on your car here”.

Right. Most of these places won’t even let you change a flat tire on the premises. Some have specific rules banning even opening the hood of a car.

Yeah. Let’s go with that.

Yup, my old apartment would have some crotchety old lady come sneer at you just for opening your hood. I regularly ignored these complaints since they never did anything about them. Usually I just had to wait until after around 6pm and then it was fine since management left for the day. This led to middle of the night car repairs just to avoid the Gestapo. Was really stupid since I did many repairs this way that without the rule I would have been more respectful to the intent of it.

My favorite part about these dumb rules is that it led to an “underground/outlaw” maintenance community at my old appartment. I bonded with my fellow neighbors who unabashedly ignored the heavily enforced no maintenance laws in our leases. It always meant working on cars in the cover of darkness or picking a day where maintenance wasn’t around and picking up shop and moving if they came after us. It was a cat and mouse game and while terribly inconvenient, was kind of fun. I would not recommend it as it was a serious time sync and I hate working in the dark if I can avoid it lol.
